The World is at War!

It looks like peoples anxiety on the release of Call of Duty 5: World at War has been thankfully misplaced. Unsure on the competitive future of the 5th installment to the series, fans who attended the Call of Duty 5 Launch Party have posted some positive feedback on the game and it looks like Treyarch have hit on a winner.

Whilst there was a lot of trepidation on the series moving back to the World War II setting, as well as the impact the change in engine would have on the game, Treyarch have come up with the goods by utilizing the fantastic Infinity Ward engine whilst melding in their own elements to the game; Churning out what looks to be another competitive title for the summer.

With the familiar feel of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty 5 gives players not only an engine they are already comfortable with, but some fantastic new game types that will put a new slant on the competitive community. With War and Capture the Flag making a return to the franchise, this will no doubt give competitive variety and allow for some diversity in tournament play.

Some of the positive feedback to the game from the GotGames.com.au forum already:

They are using the same engine as COD4, which looks good

The actual game looked awesome, much better than the beta, and better graphics than COD4. The game play is really similar and storyline is good, with a few different locations. The MP maps are cool too and will be able to hold its own against COD4 competively if people give it a go.

The single biggest game feature that will bring the community drooling into COD:WAW is the bolt action rifles. Immensely popular with the focus being back towards the one-shot-one-kill and player skill rather than the spray-and-pray techniques you may have been used to with COD4

My first impressions of the game (multiplayer) was... concerning as i wasnt really sure going back to a WWII type game. However once playing the game for a little while the game became more interesting. The overall game play is very similar, but the small things they have added to the game is what makes it a good game.

Things like new perks, weapson, maps etc, they have all enhanced the game dramatically. The maps aren't too big nor too small, the bolt action rifles are awesome, accurate and easy to play with, unlike other games. The one perk i liked the most was being able to "release the dogs", once you reach a certain amount of kills without dieing you have the option to release the dogs, its makes the game much more fast paced for those who are being attacked.

Overall i think its a great game, and would recommend it to any competitive gamer.

Some of the equivalents are:

* Recon plane replacing Radar for a 3 kill streak but the effects remaining the same
* Artillery replacing Air Strike for a 5 kill streak but the effects remaining the same
* Dog Squad replacing Helicopter for a 7 kill streatk but the effects remaining the same

GotGames.com.au is looking to generate a ladder for this fantastic new installment as soon as the game is released on November the 12th. Make sure you stay tuned, as we will be providing some awesome prizes and ensuring the both the competitive and casual community who enjoy this game will be supported and encouraged to find games with Aussies online.
