As the Plan B event is now only a week away the crucial information for players and spectators is slowly being released. Here is some information that I pried out of Michael 'vex' Affleck.

There will be a total of 20 teams with players from all around the country flying in to compete in this community event. Eight of these teams already qualified earlier this year for the Anything Interactive(AI) event that subsequently fell through. These 8 teams were offered invites and thus are receiving the high seeds for the group stages.

Group Stages will be played on Saturday the 4th of July. Four groups of five teams will play over the day on the four core maps(train, dust2, inferno and nuke). The top two teams from each group will qualify for second day of competition at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology(RMIT) Broadcasting Studio. The eight finalist teams will be playing a best of three single elimination bracket on Sunday the 5th of July while playing under lights and cameras of the B1GLeague eSports Media team.

These are the eight invited and confirmed teams from the AI qualifiers:

Team Immunity
SublimePCGear
iCHOR
Tension
Qlimax
Remedi
Trainwreck
Synergy

The above teams will be required to pay a $50 fee and the 'wildcard' teams are required to pay $150. This money will be going towards the prize pool for the event as it is a community 'Nationals'.

General Information

Seedings and group draws will be released next week as well as the map rotation. Ventrilo client and server will be available at MidCity and should be available at the RMIT Broadcasting Studio.

The prizes are yet to be officially confirmed.

If you are a competitor or a spectator please make sure you bring your manners and patience!

Competitors

You will need to bring your gaming peripherals - mouse, mousepad, keyboard and headphones. Use of USB's or any storage devices for configs, drivers, etc will not be allowed. The CEVO config will be permitted and that can be downloaded from the CEVO website on game day. Players can use either the LAN centre's steam accounts or your own.

Spectators

For people wishing to spectate at MidCity for the Group Stages there will be a $5 fee. This will also go towards the prize pool. If you are not able to come down and spectator the matches live, you will be able to sit in the comfort of your own home and watch the games on SourceTV, view all the action on mIRC scorebots or see the coverage updates on your favourite forum, GotGames!

The finals will be streamed live across the internet from the RMIT Broadcasting Studios. You will be able to catch all the ingame action with commentating and live footage. There will be limited spectating space inside the Studio.

The Breakdown

  • $150 entry for wild card teams
  • $50 entry for invited teams
  • Group Stages 4th of July MidCity LAN centre
  • Finals 5th of July RMIT Broadcasting Studio
  • $5 Spectator fee
  • SourceTV's/Scorebots/Live stream available

Questions that you have about timetables, etc will be released over the next week by vex. Stay tuned for updates!

I also enjoy watching a LAN event from online, not to mention having to pay for it.
Wanky commented on 26 June, 2009 05:17 PM

Thats a fair point there m8.
stedytc commented on 26 June, 2009 06:04 PM
yeah fuck that. Im going to hang out and have drinks etc but that's pretty fucking shit if we cant go to spec. I mean when you think about it, this whole nats thing is the real reason why most people are interstating.

Why are people paying for flights to travel to melbourne when they could save like $200-$300 and practically do the same thing at home.

Fuck that. I know you want the community to grow but honestly the community will grow via support for the community. How the fuck are you going to go ahead and hold a nationals finals where you actually EXCLUDE the community who have PAID to fly to watch a computer game.
esjay commented on 26 June, 2009 07:49 PM
so am i playing or what (question mainly for reiko)? If not flag spectating, i'll just meet you all out for beers somewhere!
ymmoc commented on 26 June, 2009 08:14 PM
It would be better to make the 5 dollar 'fee' a voluntary donation.

Good writeup spunj.
Cazza commented on 26 June, 2009 09:41 PM
Sounds good, but is shit how you have to pay $5 to spec. Just make it a gold coin donation or some shit.
oohsean commented on 26 June, 2009 09:55 PM
Kinda think the $5 spec fee isn't the main issue.
fooUNDERSCORE!!! commented on 26 June, 2009 11:05 PM
this.
jemsKe commented on 26 June, 2009 11:13 PM
2 things:

1.I don't think there should be a spectator fee, i think its a bit harsh to expect people pay to spectate inside a lan cafe, it would be different if the entire comp was run in the studio, but its just not practical. This whole finals spectating thing is an issue. Something needs to be changed.

2.Why cant players use their own configs if they log onto their own steam account? No USB sticks? Fair enough no drivers but no own configs? That's just stupid.

Other than that, cheers for the info spunj.
jemsKe commented on 26 June, 2009 11:16 PM
ALSO

Use the charity dinner on Thursday night as a fun raiser rather than the $5 spec fee. I'm sure this will be a more practical and suitable method of fund raising.
