Aim

I've noticed over the past month or so there's been a fair amount of threads asking about how to gain "clue" how to "call" etc.
In this thread I'm going to give a few tips and pointers on some fundementals of CS:S.

Over the past two years of my competitive CS:S career, I've found some basic things that help me improve my aim.
DeathMatch ~ Deathmatch is a good way to improve your aim because you can choose which weapon you would like to use and you don't have to wait till the end of the round to spawn.
When choosing your gun in deathmatch, stick to guns you'd use in scrims or wars; ie. M4A1(Colt), AK47, Deagle, AWP.
You should focus on aiming at the oppositions head whilst deathmatching, and you shouldn't slack off.
Don't think it's "uncool" to concentrate and try because it's a public server, you're not there to impress anyone, you're there to improve yourself.

This is also a good way to improve your knowledge of maps if you're in a server which rotates between war maps.

Some recommended servers are:
GotGames Free-For-All Deathmatch (multiple maps) - connect 118.127.0.100:30003
EpicServers Deathmatch (multiple maps) - connect 202.60.88.7:27018
GameArena Deathmatch - connect 144.140.154.63:21600

Ecoslaw ~ Ecoslaw is a popular aim map played on LAN servers against 5 bots.
Generally the bots can only use knives and rush you, which makes it tempting to be lazy and ace every round. I don't believe this technique betters you as a player, but if you play aggressively and attack them, your aim will become sharper.
I recommend spending 45 minutes - 1 hour on ecoslaw per night OR 500 bots.
I use the USP for 100 frags, Deagle for 100 frags, Colt for 100 frags, AK for 100 frags and AWP for 100 frags; this way I'm a versatile player and can use all weapons effectively.
You can download ecoslaw here: ecoslaw.bsp Download File

Recoil Correction ~ Recoil correction can be difficult to begin with, but once you get the hang of it, it is a very handy skill.

With both of these weapons, you can see distinct patterns with bullet impact whilst spraying. I find that when using the M4A1 it's easiest to control recoil merely by dragging down in a slow manner. When using the AK47 I like to control recoil by strongly, but not swiftly, drag down whilst veering diagonally left.

Here is a video that will give you some tips on the AK47 and M4A1

Please never try to analyze the recoil 'patterns' ever again.

Nice effort though and good advice with the demoes :P

What deathdog is trying to say is that the recoil patterns are random, unlike in 1.6 where they were predictable.

good article never the less.

Recoil Correction -
Hold down Mouse1 whilst alternating between holding the A and D keys. A variation to this is throwing in W and space bar every now and then.
