Introduction

Sniping, and more specifically awping, has been an integral part of counter strike since 1.0, where leg shots killed and awps had crosshairs. Over time the weapon fluctuated in power with delayed scoping, quick scoping and glitches. Its current incarnation, however, can be considered a relatively balanced weapon – even if pub players may beg to differ.

Many players aspire to become the greatest awper in the world – I was one of them myself. It helps to have some sort of idea of the difficulties that these individuals are going to face as they rise through the echelons of competition.

I caught up with widely known ‘awp specialist’ Zeke ‘Zeke’ Beaven, and currently on hiatus player Luke ‘Havoc’ Paton, to gain some insight into how the awp is regarded strategically by the pros.
