Hi
I played tf2 on my friends pc and was shocked how better it was than mine, his computer is almost the same but has a geforce 8800 gfx instead. His game runs around 40-120fps and mine barely goes over 50fps even if im looking down or in the spawn alone. Do I need to upgrade? Is 17-50fps the best I can obtain with my setup? What fps should I be getting with this rig in tf2? Big thanks to anyone that can help with some advice. What res do you use?
afaik source engine games are very cpu reliant over gfx btw Try turning down AA/AF and turn off HDR and see if it gives you any improvement, if it doesn't then something must be limiting you

I run about solid 70 fps-190fps in 32 slot servers in the middle of fights with a big pedestal fan sitting next to me. Max everything on my laptop. :S
If I don't have the fan I get about 9fps-30fps when the laptop starts to overheat. My laptop has a Intel C2Duo T9600 2.8GHZ CPU. TF2 depends on your CPU more than the GFX, right? Maybe there's your problem, I'm not too sure.
