Right, im backing up my files now, ready for a reinstall of my vista home premium 64bit. Heres how it is, Windows installer dosnt work (and yes, ive done EVERYTHING to try and fix it). CSS now crashes before it loads (strangely enough, cod4 works though????), i have no sound, it cant find my music files even if i drop them into media player, firefox wont open (im using IE for this) and even if i close some apps (winamp) the process is still running. Im thinking this is a registry issue, because it was fine last night, when i turned off my pc, then today when i turned it on it was F'd. Because registry needs a restart to make any changes i think its that.
If theres anything you guys can help me to do to save having to reinstall my 300+gb of data, please let me know! (and dont say get xp, lol)
Ummm
Boot from CD at startup, you can do a "repair" on the Operating System dude...
Do not try it from within the OS....BAD move.
download DART for vista.
tis a bootable repair tool for vista
Diagnostic and recovery tool.
run a system file check etc.
if it fails do a sys restore.
if that fails do a repair install.
if that fails, backup and reinstall.
u can also try using regseeker and ccleaner first.
also run a memtest and spinrite to check RAM and HDD
I'd be saying corrupted install
Its always a good idea to get a newer copy of vista. You can still use your DVD KEY but go and download a copy of vista with SP2 included. Then do a nice fresh format.
Tho, windows 7 RTM comes out on the 15th of July. Im holding out for that. Then going to W7.
I won't be porting over to w7 yet,
Vista Ultimate SP2 does its job.
lol shawn :P
And It still isn't any better...
It is good but XP SP3 offers complete stability.
Booted from startup, to "repair" and that option was blanked out. Ive tried applications like DART with no success. I backedup, and did a full format-reinstall. Everythings working perfectly, .NET installs (it didnt before) windows installer works (it didnt install) and all my large files were on D drive anyway, so theyre fine. Thanks for the suggestions!
Heh...
No its not...
Quite Simply, he couldn't fix it....
I would have![]()
