    Fuck

I know this should be in the support section but I don't care, Last night I was playing source and out of nowhere I started lagging and it felt like I was getting like >900 ping but I only had 30ms/ping which was odd, I was talking in vent and lagging aswell, I minimized to see my ping in vent and it was like 9999999999, Maximized back into source and I had timed out of the server... Minimized again and I had timed out of vent.... Then msn... Then Mirc... Since this has happened I haven't been able to get onto the internet on my computer at all, I've restarted it several times and also restarted the router aswell, It just says the internet is not connected. I've tried alot of things to get it working and nothing.. I am currently on my laptop which is connected to the same internet. So it isn't the internet it is a computer issue...

tldr, I really don't want to reformat but that is all I can see at the moment, Does anyone have any suggestions for me before I reformat my computer.

Please don't move this thread lol

Virus scan came back clean and I don't know what power cycle your modem means

I'm about an hour away from reformatting.

Unplug your modem for a few minutes, then plug it in again. Or, hit the reset button on it if you have one. Definitely try this before reformatting.

Go into command prompt and type "ipconfig" (without the quotes)

    Start -> Run -> cmd

What does it say in there?

Also, is this computer connecting via ethernet cable or wireless?

    Is that all it says?

Do you see "media state disconnected" or any numbers (IP addresses)?

If you look at the ethernet lights on your modem, how many of them are on? Try plugging the ethernet cable into a different port or try a different cable altogether.

No chX when I typed ipconfig into command prompt that is all that came up, All my lights are on on the modem.. I really don't think it is a internet or router problem it has to be CPU of some sort... If you read OP I was just playing source when it happened out of nowhere and the internet is fine on my laptop

One other thing you could try is resetting the TCP/IP stack.

    In command prompt:

    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    See if that helps.

(How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) for further info)

Out of interest, what modem/router is it and is your laptop connected via wireless or ethernet?

    I would be blaming NIC

    OR

Something hardware based in the system has decided to fuck up.

Well 1...When things just "Fucking Die" you would assume hardware failure....900 ping or more would tell me the NIC is dead / dying or there is a modem fault...

You provide little detail and without me been there to see it, I am going by my past experiences...

The laptop works, the desktop doesn't

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you that its either something rooted hardware based or software based....Try a system restore to a day or so ago...still rooted...Try another NIC.
