Ive been thinking of ways to increase the amount of people playing in the SC ladder. Its rising slowly with about 1 new person per day but i think we should be aiming a little higher than that.
I think we should run a 'Gotgames Starcraft Invite Competition' at some stage in the near future. We will announce it around 3-4 months prior to when we plan on running it and we stipulate that the top 8/16 players from the gotgames ladder will be the players that are invited. Then we get a decent prize which makes other starcraft players actually want to play in the comp and consiquently make them join the ladder.
What does everyone think of this sort of thing? Paul, I was thinking of this being a knockout comp as that is the easiest form of comp to run, but is this the common way of running SC comps?
It would also need some funding (or sponsorship) for the prizemoney, which I have no control over, so this is still all very uncertain until we can get that hammered out.
Anyone else got ideas on increasing the number of players in the ladder?
first thing first, advertise it! GA forums, GS forums, iNode forums, etc. Ppl automatically think GG is the be all and end all of the eGaming community... let's get the word out there.
I criticised the CGS quals on the same grounding for fifa and PGR... and i was right. bugger all advertising on other forums because the first round of each of the brackets had the word "bye" everywhere.
Suggest Paul comes up with some ideas of his own that he knows will advertise the comp. You cant expect to promote an "invite" comp if u can't even get numbers for an open ladder.
/rant
beleive me ron the ladder has been advertised on all the aussie SC websites I could find.
kk, well Saba is doing his best efforts to promote the release of SC2... so that may help a bit, but yeh, announcing a specific prize rather than being ambigiuous about it may help. but as u said gumgum, out of your hands.
32 player double elim FFYI monster comp. Advertise it using promotion videos, banners, predictions etc etc and get a massive hype about it.
invite 1st-8th into a pro league
invite 9th-16th into intermediate league
Leave the rest to form the start of the open league which will grow as a result of the hype from the monster comp.
Pay to play will cover the prizes for the invite comps.
A league running for 3-4 months is by no means a good way of selecting teams for an invite comp or for creating the attention needed for an invite comp.
wat the...
Its an open ladder and for the moment thats all its going to be. Im just talking about running a small comp on the side lol...
That actually sounds good, i would get back into starcraft if this ended up happeningfollow it up gummerz, would definitely be keen.
edit: do you remember SinGe from about 3 years ago?
Over two years late odd

Advertise what exactly?
im new but ive played starcraft alot, where can i get the game and what server?
I've never played SC but i'm willing to be a noob for it. Just wondering if i have to play the 1st SC to know what im doing ? or just noob it up in SC2 ?![]()
You can noob it up in sc2 for sure, but you will be at a severe disadvantage to those that have pracced up on the first one. Also you wont have any idea where the storyline is at either
All the people that pick up sc2 are going to be absolutely fucking shat on by guys that are still playing the first one.
