![]() Hello fellow Gotgamers I am looking to run a BYOC LAN event every 6 or so weeks a year starting at the end of this year (possibly mid november?)in South Australia .This thread is basically to see ... 1) the interest - how many of you would be keen for more LAN events in SA? 2) ideas to what you'd like at the events - should it be similar to valhalla or different? 3) location ideas - ive got a few places in mind however some of you have been involved in LAN'ing alot longer then i have - also depends on attendance Breif history I am well known in the Australian eSports scene for founding Sequential Gaming, one of Australias premiere gaming teams, ive had alot of experience with differents teams from many games, various sponsors and overseas travel for World Cyber Games, not to mention Interstate competitions. I have since removed myself from Sequential Gaming and wanting to work with eSports in Australia in general. I think running LANs will be a great new challenge, ill be looking to run a Nationals event in 2009 . I have a large list of sponsors who want to be part of this - most i can not mention as of yet sorry until release date. Epic Servers are one of our main sponsors, we will be looking to run HLTV for Source across the Nation. They will also support us in general with servers and media coverage. These events will be directly inbetween Valhallas events, so therefore no confliction. Sublime are in no way shape or form trying to compete against Valhalla, infact we would love to work with them. More then likely we will be running a console comp and pc comp, and various other activities. (this is where the ideas come in !) I have already started some LAN's in Melbourne - 1.6 competition , which went very successfully , however that was done at a net cafe , not a BYOC which i plan to do with Adelaide Lan events. We have a massive new community website being made at the moment. Sublime PC Gear - Visit our Forums! currently only our forums are up at the moment but the full website has been designed and not far away from completion Please sign up to our forums if you can for updates ! If you have any direct questions, either pm me here or get me a email at... sublimepcgear@gmail.com I am really lookin to host for at least 100+ people Also we have a IRC Channel on irc.gamesurge.net #sublimepcgear Thanks for your time Nathan ' Nateus ' Walton *edit - graphics work done by Bench Studios for banner ! |

I would definately be interested in another LAN event in SA. As for what I would like to see from it, I guess something similar to Valhalla (it seems to be a winning formula for successful events there), with a good balance of competitive gaming and social activity. Primarily I would like to see a good CSS comp, would be nice to have another LAN event to compete in.
With locations ideas, I don't really know of anywhere specific, as I have only been to LANs at the St. Clair centre, but anywhere within about a 20-30min drive of the city would be appropriate IMO, that way it will more than likely cater for most people travelling to the LAN.

1) i'm interested but it'd probably get to a stage where i'd have to go to either valhalla or this or couldn't be bothered going to one or the other as there's too many on too close to each other.
2) other people may disagree but i'd like the source comp at lan to be in a draftlan style. for a few reason's: 1- people don't have to organise teams before hand 2- level the playing field of teams 3- get to know other lanners but running the source comp in a draft style would depend on if draftlans are going to be held more frequently. 3) no idea LoL |

I think the idea of BYOC draft LAN for CSS would be great, wouldn't give anyone the excuse of not being use to the cafe comps and not being able to play to their usual standard. Only problem could be that teams may not be able to sit together, as it could be a hassle once you get there to move your PC to a new location and organise everyone. Although teams could be drafted prior to the LAN, so maybe the day before the captains get together on vent/irc/steam/whatever and choose teams, the only disadvantage to that would be if there were no shows at the LAN.

what about.....
if i did something similar to what you guys had last week with DRAFT LAN so example have the SUBLIME CSS LAN COMP - run it say once every 2 months or something Have a cash prize + ill include sponsors prizes have a MVP prize and Runner up MVP prize or something along the lines of that do say 12 team competition? or 16 team (if i can get the numbers for it doubt it but never the less depends what i can offer i guess as to the interest) If this doesnt work - maybe i could just have a BYOC CSS LAN up to say 100 css players - Double Elim Competition - 1 Day or whatever , purely put all funds and prizes into the competition, jazz it up a bit and do the same with dota for instance - dota comp at a lan cafe same conditions etc. Just an idea as opposed to having a very general / broad ranged lan event. |

Would never get 8 teams. Probs about 5 at max. However i do like Gavin's idea about drafting. It's a great way to meet new people and yes it would be a great idea Nate.
