Default is it possible...

for someone to code a program that can convert .dem files to movie files.

not sure if it is due to demos just being screenshots and **** but has anyone actually tried doing something like this?

as far as I can remember a .dem is not a video at all.... In fact its just a stream of what the server is sending you (more or less) when you are playing.

Try opening source and playing the dem.. you can watch it.. now add your favorite screen to avi program and boom.

Yeah, theres no actual image footage in the .dem file. Its just a big text file, a set of instruction so to speak, of what happened during the scrim. Source reads it and then recreates the scene based off the "movie script". Good analogy imo. Its like a movie script, theres no pictures or sounds involved with the script but when coupled with actors you have something you can see which follows the script.

Making a macro to open source and type in 'playdemo (demoname)' would be easier. Just rename the demos to a common file name.

Without having the original CS Source code and modifying it or hooking into the source exe somehow, i dont think we can make it rewind. Ive read tutorials on how to make your own stuff for source, program wise, but not specifically on rewinding demo's..

you'd have to recompile the whole source engine to your needs, assuming you have the source code (which you don't). So the only feasible way this would ever happen is if Valve themself made it.
