GotGames Latest Posts to mIRC channel

Today i will commence work on a module that will post the gotgames latest threads/posts to mIRC. It will allow people to keep update on whats happening in the community and will effectivly have a postitive effect on the GotGames website.

Got a question to the GotGames website developers:

Is there an xml page for the latest forum posts?

I would like to know if GotGames are interested in having the Bot running in #GotGames?

There use to be a bot that said when someone made a new thread, not to sure what happend to it though.

I suppose they did.. it also doubled up as a scorebot and whatnot.

Yeah I remember that about last sept or nov

it was good i used to post when It spammed a new thread good to keep u informed if ur not completely idle on the site

maybe nuk3 should put it back up on the irc chan ? if possible

you actually read my mind paul, I had made a thread in the admin forum asking nuk3 about it 3 days ago, he found it so its up and running now, I just want to tweak a couple of things about it.

do u have to script it from the site to the irc chan ?

An IRC bot is basically just an IRC client, just like mIRC, but can only perform a small predefined range of automated tasks based on certain criteria and events. You can write an irc bot in any language which supports sockets such as PHP, Perl or even the mIRC scripting language.

The IRC protocol itself is dead simple and there's also plenty of tutorials on the net on how to create IRC bots. Both Kbot (Khaless' masterpiece bot) and tehIRC (killertim's and my bot) are both written in PHP.

Cheers owen sounds interesting when I get some time might have a look into php scripting and have a go.

He's busy with UNI mostly, still drops in here occasionally.

Ah k what courses did he take up at uni ?

did he quit css for good or just till he gets past exams and stuff ?

He does Comp Sci. Same as me, but I'm not a nooby 1st year (im 3rd year :P)

If ur gonna try writing a bot, i suggest u do it in python
