Are you talking about FTP clients? if so wy is it in programming? If you need to make a program that uses ftp, look up about sockets.

Actually If you want a program that uses FTP, perhaps first see if you can find a solid, well maintained FTP library that will do what you need. Then, if you cannot find one which suits your needs look @ implementing the lower level protocol yourself. (This approach will save you time, effort on architecture and probably means you end up with less buggy software)
