For those who haven't seen the new game under development (Cysis), it is implementing the new engine called 'CryEngine'. It is well worth a look at - as it's leading the way in next gen games.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVqtAQPt9Zs The above shows features of the engine, and there are alot of clips on YouTube relating to the game Crysis as well as the egine, CryEngine. |

Yeah I did too cam, just felt like posting about it as it's set to be released soon (Crysis). From memory it's going to be released in either October or November of this year; however developer licenses for the engine itself were avaliable last year.. although they aren't cheap

I heard they are porting it to completely DX10? Well.. not completely, but you can't play it at all without a DX10 enabled GFX card. My tutor at school said something like that..

I can't wait to see the full potential of this, I remember a picture of grass and the CryEngine's rendering of it, lets just say looked insane.
Crysis will be the biggest revolution graphics wise I reckon for the gaming sector, from the videos I saw on Crysis-Online. I'd say it would be DirectX 9 backwards compatible tbh, as rokkerz said the market is too big atm for them to cut DX 9 Support. -Shawn

well farcannell, if them specs listed are true then woohoo. My current 1 year old comp leaves nuggets on the recommend specs and my comp(in theory) should play the game pretty well. CANT WAIT FOR THIS!

They are probably estimates from last year. And although their portalling methods are quite awesome and well thought out, I doubt even a card of that quality could support over 2 million polygons, as well as the lighting and physics.

Im starting a mod for this game soon (its SDK is set to be out around early '08) and im buying a whole new rig for Crysis.
DX10 is my recommendation for good performance based on a bunch of research i done. (theres a link to more detailed breakdown, ill find it sometime soon and edit this post) Quad core CPU NVidia 8800GTS/GTX (depending on your budget - former will do fine) Vista Gigabyte 1333 compatible mobo 2 x 1GB 800RAM 4-4-4-12

IMO source isnt the best engine i ever saw like people always unanymously declare. Its the most popular sure, beefed by it being attached to steam platform games obv. -- and its physics are regarded as an amazing sort for a 2004 era engine, but it pays for it as you say - being so intensive on CPU, i hear people with like 7900GTX still complain about random frame drops below 100 and stuff when they should easily be capping max fps. Many power of jew technology labouring the CPU.
But back to the topic, i still think easily Dual-core is needed - backed by at least a high 7 series GTX Nvidia, with good ram like 2 GIG or 4 x1 sticks be better off with the CPU and gfx listed there. Then you can run Crysis, bioshock and UE3 games with medium settings in good fps
