Metal Gear paradox?

I just need clarification on this because i know some game developers are idiots. (didnt think konami were

) In MGS4 Both Octagon and Meryl are both alive and kicking right?

For those of you who can remember there were various endings to Metal Gear depending on certain things in the game?

One meryl dies right? and the other, Octagon? How can both of em be alive in MGS 4

Lame! Hate when games do this.

Merly dose not die in the proper ending and in the cut scene in the end you see otacone as though he survived in the the proper ending for mgs1 if u submit the torture its not the correct ending to go along with the storyline they have continued on with.

No he lives on, you just don't see him live at the end because merly is driving if you do not submit.
