Anyways i sold my pc 8 or so months ago due to gf whinging about playing games etc, tonight after going to the movies she has decided that i am getting a console for my birthday.

SO which in your opinion is the best to get?

I like multiplayer fps shooters mostly.

Please list some reasons why one is better than the other(s)!

your best bet is the xbox 360, the xbox sucks compared to the playstation 3 on hardware imo and options, xbox you have to pay a monthly fee and you that red light error which is ridicilious

But it unfortantly is the King of console FPS competitive shooters and competitive, you wont get the same on a ps3. some of the games are available but its nowhere near as active as the xbox 360

The playstation 3 as always is more suited for RPG and singleplayer story lined games like final fantasy and .hack and Kingdom hearts

to put it basically - xbox 360 = fps shooters and competitive scenes and foxtel access + heaps of features
playstation 3 = RPG games, final fantasy, lots of features, big community, free to play online

id buy one legit from ebgames and pay full price, ebay is nice but theres never a gaurantee considering the xbox's hardware known faults. you may get one out of the free warranty

If you buy it legit, you get 3 years free warranty for the Red light of Death error by microsoft. which happens to alot of people ALOT , even with cleaning my 360 everyday, it happened twice to me using the Pro 20GB console from yonks ago, idk they may have improved on the error

but id much rather get the gaurantee's then not if i was buying an xbox 360 with its known problems

Imo PS3...you're not going to be playing FPS multiplayer games the entire time might aswell get something that you can play on a casual basis for singleplayer games. You can still compete online on PS3 and although its not as competitive im sure your gf would like that. But considering you guys are already bidding on that XBox there is no point in this post i guess :P

ok i have a pc.. well laptop its does me very well for gaming battlefields cod etc.. i got a ps3 and i have 2 Xboxs.. no im not trying to brag im just pointing out the fact that the laptop and ps3 have never let me down.. ever and they get abused in terms on playing games.. wher the Xboxs.. 2 months first one fucked up.. 2 weeks later 2nd one fucked up.. i learnt my lesson after that never buy a Xbox. My cousins ps3(fat) has recently gotten the yellow light of death.. on ps3 its supposed to be the equivalent of Xbox red ring of death and surprisingly if you sit there for about 10 mins turning it on and off it will start up and run normally.

so i would suggest a ps3 man.

FPS on console makes me want to vomit, perhaps it is because I don't touch them a lot but the controls are just turd for it. Though they are better for some things where the keyboard mouse combo sucks (like racing games I guess)

Bet everything there is two controllers with whichever way you go so you can have lovely couples gaming nights.

Knowing that you're a semi-serious css player, suddenly playing console games instead (aiming with the gamepad, etc) I really don't think will satisfy you, so maybe convince your woman to give you a certain amount of time every week to play source/wow/whatever.

Console gaming is great fun single player but if you want to play multiplayer (that isn't Street Fighter) and you're used to accurate PC gaming, used to insta-flicking 1bs on noobs, console gaming simply won't cut the mustard imo and you will be wishing you were back playing on the PC.

it doesnt look like shit, most games look pretty good on a full HD tv, and for the price you pay for the console and how long they last for (in terms of the next gen console) its a pretty good deal compared to $1.5k pc that you will have to upgrade many times through-out the years

yeah i was thinking about this but the fact is i cant control the amount i play... if i have a decent pc and good net and nothing to do ill be playing cs. Now that i havent played cs for a few months i realise that for every hour of enjoyment i was getting 1 hour of rage/annoyance etc from prebs or general idiots.

I can still get my aiming fix on the lappy playing quakelive (best game ever)..
