Depends if he is going to overclock it

Don't bother if he isn't but if he wants to give it a crack then its worthwhile.

Seeing as elmo doesn't want to update his thread, I decided i'd post this up. Feel free to just copy paste this to update yours elmo.

This was originally created by Stenchlord over at OCAU, this is my modified version of his recommendations. Theres a link at the bottom if you want to go to his thread (Must be a member on OCAU).

These are just suggestions. This is not the be all and end all, you can mix and match virtually any pieces of hardware nowadays. Feel free to ask questions.

EDIT: I just stumbled upon this gem, which makes MSY readable!

Firstly...please tone it down, people have told you 10 times dual is better than Quad atm...so why would there be a quad system if a dual core can do just as good if NOT better!

    Secondly...

Give us a budget and we might be able to whip up a PC for you...

Welcome to GotGames...but this is primarily a gaming forum where gaming rigs are the more important listings over a 3D Rendering setup

First off, Great List. It has given me an awsome idea of what to buy.
However, are the new intel Chips out yet? And if so, do you think anyone could recomend a good gaming rig for $1700 or less?

The $1500 build you suggested looks great, just wondering if there have been any updates. Just wondering, with 2 x Nvidia GTX260's, would cooling not be a rather high priority? Any idea's how much cooling could cost?

    Thank you in advance.

    Sorry for double post.

    My Question..

    Would a Nvidia GTX295 outdo dual GTX260's?

Well i was just looking through some prices before may get a new pc but for $1330 you can get this:

    Motherboard: G-B EP45-UD3L $177
    CPU: E8500 $299
    GPU: 1GB 9800GTX+ Gigabyte $292
    Ram: 4G Kit-800(2x2G) Kingston $67
    HD: Seagate SATA 500G $89
    PSU: Thermaltake ToughPower 600W $140
    Case: Thermaltake V9 $112
    Cooling: Thermaltake V1 $75
Soundcard: Creative X-FI Xtreme Audio $72
80mm Quad- LED Fan - Blue x2 $4 (pc case gear)

    total: $1327

All parts prices taken from MSY. If you wanted it cheaper you could go for an E8400 instead of the 8500 and get a 500W psu or something aswell. It doesn't have a dvd burner or anything in that price but u can get them for $40 i think.
