Scrims and Etiquette

I have written about gamer’s behaviour in the past so it does get a bit tiresome revisiting such a well worn topic. But once again many members of the community really seem to miss the point. There are a few issues I have noticed as major annoyances for teams trying to get scrims lately. Primarily the fact that so many teams claim to have 5 on, and then manage to get 4 in a server and keep the other team waiting for 10 to 30 minutes longer while a fifth joins. Often times the 5th turns out to be a slut as well further adding to team’s frustrations.

The other major grievance that has been occurring lately and is probably less of a problem but some seem to think that fooling around in scrims is ok. And sometimes sure it is. But when you are two reputable teams playing each other, it is not acceptable to start joining spectator to get an extra $800, it isn’t acceptable to change teams half way through a round and spec hack for your team and even at the end of a half you should stay on your team until the result is decided.

I appreciate we all like to take it easy from time to time and have a relaxing game without the seriousness and many teams get this from creating slut teams. But show some respect to the team you are playing, tell them who is in the team and let them know if it is a slut team.

Can we all make a bit of an effort to follow the following basic rules of getting a scrim:

• Notify the team if you are a slut team.
• Be honest about whether or not you have 5 online and ready to war.
• If you have five and then unforeseen circumstances cause an issue then let the other team know how long it will take so they can make the decision whether to get another war or not.
• If it is a serious war play it out and play properly.
• If you are playing a team and it turns out you are way out of their
  league, offer them a reprieve to leave the game rather than humiliating them with knives and stupid guns.

I think all teams should really start discriminating against teams who continually show bad etiquette to maybe help a few wake up and smell what they are shovelling and the impression they are making on some of the junior teams.

This is much like the time I played dodge, picked threw the door 3/4 times giving us the 5v4 advantage only to have dodge retry everytime and get back in.

Agreed. The community really needs to get serious so all our skill levels can improve and we can actually do something oversea's when source becomes the main game of the big competitions.

Or. Make a private gotgames scrim channel where the password is given to selected teams. If you are a retard ingame, then you will banned from the chan (with sufficient evidence). Problem solved.

I think this really only applies with teams. If it's a scrim between two proper teams, i rarely see stupid behaviour. But if its two slut teams, then i don't really care.

i must admit i hate it when people spec bug, or do an illegal plant or defuse.

its like it doesnt matter at all, which is really sad for the community.

I dont think there needs to be any formal rules but the community can adopt a few basic principles to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.

I suggest people adopt three basic codes for getting a scrim.

• GG Scrim - Meaning the higher level teams looking for a legitimate game following GG rules with no poor sportsmanship or behaviour.
• Slut Scrim - [Skill Level] - Meaning a group of individuals not a specific team. Skill level can indicate to lower tier teams what they can expect.
• Fun Scrim - Team looking for less of a challenge and more to relax and enjoy the match.

I dont think there can be any reasonable way people can enforce this sort of behaviour but it is high time the community took some action to people who dont. GG could look at enforcing penalties to those who ask for a GG scrim and then do not deliver. Eg, take more than 10 minutes to get 5 players in the server, spec bug etc.

I do not think there should be any rules or regulations or even purported rules on limiting weapons or tactics.

shotguns, p90's at a stretch but ump's no. Anyone knows that a mp5 is a better gun than a ump and there is no reason to buy a ump when you can buy a mp5.

Buying a m249 is not taking a war seriously.

a lot of the guns are very useful hybrid, they each have there own strengths and weaknesses. Personally i never use mp5, id either go for a TMP (for rushing lower on d2) or ump for long range/anti eco slaws.

tbh all weapons are part of the game and are there to be used (yes buying autos and paras etc get annoying but they are just the same as any other gun, they kill ppl). If players want to be retards and ruin the game for themselves then let them use those guns.

The thing i find most annoying is people who mm1 constantly throughout a war. It should be left to pre-lo3, half time and full time not during the war.

Theres times where I play positions I'm used to and if we win pistol I'll usually buy a p90 and push the next few rounds..

I had a war with some losers one time. I was in a slut war myself they were in a slut war. Had a few known players in it aliasing. I can't be bothered mentioning names but just realise you are all tossers. Basically trying to have a war and they were kicking our players then saying "OMFG YOUR DF NDN FFRATING ****!!!!" Then when we would go for defuse they would kick us again. It's just pathetic. I had a bit of a rage at them and there comeback was "omg its only a game man where just having fun" wasn't fun for us so get a brain then come back to this game plz.

Care to elaborate on why they are "stupid"? And secondly, they arent rules, just guidelines for the community to try and improve the state of scrimming. No one can enforce them legitimately.

In my opinion if you are going to bother to scrim at all, you may as well try to play properly as well as try to win.

No grey area at all, it is pretty black and white.

If you want to fuk around with stupid guns or do stupids things, go play pub, preferably not with me.

But overall I agree with the original general concept.

Moreover, this thread is proof that the rep system sucks. Quality over quantity I say, and the rep system ought to reward that over all other factors, inluding post count and longevity.

On a serious note, it is really frustrating when you're sitting there waiting and waiting for their 5th
On GA, the server ends up timing out before the war ends, and if its a clan server, I end up playing so shit because I'm already frustrated from waiting so long
I know sometimes people just wanna muck around with spam guns, but if you're scrimming to prac for an important upcoming war (not like i've been in one) it can really tick you off
So I think we should all learn some respect and not to be a bunch of ****heads when scrimming
