    Huks Tutorial: Part1 AIM

Huks Guide to Aim Part 1

I thought id throw a series of threads together to help out some players. So here goes my first one.

In this thread we'll be discussing how to improve your aim, But the first step is to make sure u have:

    * Got a good mouse, ie mx510, mx518, habu, g5, or 1.1 etc As well as a decent mouse pad, i havent used any hard pads such as icemat. BUt id recommend, a large clothpad, Steelpad qck, dkt megamat, everglide titan etc.

    * Turned off your mouse accell either through driver options or cpl Mouse fix, which does it manually. LINK: http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/files/...e46974bb316494

    * Run at a solid fps, anything above 60 or 70 should be fine. having lower fps often changes the way ur mouse reacts to your movements.

    * Found a sensitivity where u can turn around 180 degrees with 1 or 2 swings. U don't want to turn around with 1 flick because when u actually do get in a firefight if its too high u wont be able to control recoil. So anything between 0.75 and 2.2, on 800dpi and 6/11 windows sens would be suitable. Then it comes down to personal preference if u go higher or lower.

OK, most importantly. Once uve got things set up to suit you how are you gonna acctually do the aiming part?

Things to know. Or at least think about.

    * Aim comes from the wrist and fingertips, moving your xhair around the screen comes from your arm (eg turning around). Difference being your fingers, and wrist are fine muscles u have developed from writing and doing small activities for years, and they are best suited for tiny movements. Your arm muscles have been developed for whacking off, playing tennis and beating the wife. So they can really handle the 180's well.

So i tend to hold my mouse close to the edge of my desk, rather then right up high because that sorta restricts my wrist to move around.

That pretty much covers ground knowledge. Now to basics.

I figured that u wanna learn how far your mouse moves with certain movements, u need to learn 180 and 90 degree turns, as well as smaller movements. Mouse control is important if u wanna smash heads.

Here's a little demo i recorded on dust2 just showing a few ways u can practice controlling your mouse. Also doing some of this stuff in warm up or eco rounds can really tune u up for the next few rounds.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/8891164/...ctise.rar.html

The next thing u need to learn is playing bots. Lots and lots of bots.

Put this line in your autoexec so that u can play bots regularly, without using console commands so often.

    mp_limitteams 0
    mp_autoteambalance 0
    bot_join_team t
    bot_quota 5
    bot_difficulty 0

That will start the server with 5 bots joining terrorist.

    Maps YAY

Alrite, time to choose what maps. First start on Blood_assault

use your usp, try get the feel for it, get headshots n shit. Do 5 rounds in a row. Or if u dont get bored continue. Then buy a glock and use that for 5 rounds, take note of its accuracy, and how fast u can fire it before it gets un-accurate.
After a few rounds with those pistols use your deagle, get your only aiming for putting your xhair on their heads. You may think its random and un-accurate but the more precise you have that dot on the head, the more times you will find yourself taking down 3 or 4 in a row. (they are only bots )

Then go onto rifles, for ak, try practice moving your aim right onto their head\neck area and drag straight down in one swift movement. Shooting 2 or 3 bullets, then strafe. This will familiarize you with shooting between strafes.
For m4, basically 2 or 3 bullet burst, its best if u can control how many bullets u shoot .

Remember rifles have several different methods of shooting for certain situations, The tap tap, which is a slower spray groups bullets better. The 2 bullet strafe fire, is great for range or moving targets. The spray is for anything u think it'll work on :P

ALRIGHTY, now your an allrounder! Do this once or twice a day for a while. Maybe 5 rounds each gun. Have a look at this demo i just recorded to see what u should be aiming for. Its a bit rough because i had so many programs open while playing.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/8893773/Desktop.rar.html

To play a demo open console and type demoui then select the demo name from the list, make sure you have that map in your maps folder or else it wont work.

Well, ull want to practice your aim on other maps for different situations right? Well ive made a few custom maps, but they are pretty much kept secret for now.

Ones i can hand out though are. These. Ill also include a small demo to each of the maps so u can see how to practice on them.

    Bloodassault_mini
    All_around_aim
    InfernoB_beta

    http://rapidshare.com/files/8966152/...demos.rar.html

To actually benefit from these maps, ull need to know what to do, u cant just sit behind a box with an awp waiting for them to come around and think ull get good right?

BA mini: Great map, u can practice all guns, and using nades. Either strafe out, and try take as many as u can, or keep peeking in and out shooting 1 each time. Even wait at an angle for the first one to walk into your aimer then strafe out spraying, try to take down 2 or 3 after that.

All around Aim: This is a bit of a dud map, but u can sit in your enclosure as CT, and wait for the T's to get near u and flick your aim onto them when they get into 1 or 3 entrances.

INferno B BETA: Its great for anything, try playing behind a box waiting for them then taking them down from left and right.

    Practice Routine

Now basically all thats left is developing a practise routine. Usualy ill get bored some nights and play these maps with mp3's going for a few hours, or maybe just 5 minutes when i come online to warm up.

What ull need to do is develop a time limit, which makes the difference between practicing something, and just warming up on a map.

Lets say for starters, u might want to play bots every day u come online. Find some good music and just shoot away, u might find it frustrating in some cases just dying or missing a few shots consecutivley but in the end it all works out fine.

Things you can do on top of playing bots, is play lots of GA DM #3 War maps
which will basically sharpen you up and increase your skill level on a whole with certain weapons. Ull basicaly want to be killing everything u see, and pretending that situation was in a war and where ud look next etc.

now thats it for this series i hope some of you learn something from it because i spent ages putting this together.

    GL HF

I was going to mention it, but then if i wanted to write a decent guide, id need to explain how to set up 1.6 so u dont get gay'ed by the settings of it. like accel, 60hz, vsync and that shit.

plus it takes some explaining getting 1.6 dm to work with bots, and online is just wierd. GA 1.6 servers dont cut it.

for those of you who dont want to read it all

    get a good mouse

    get a good pad

practice half bots half pub, not fully pub.

    practice

    practice

i never actually play pub, i will only bot / DM / scrim. i cant stand waiting around for nubes to finish, just to spawn and get rushed by some guy with a p90 at long.

    3 seconds after googling:
The CPL Mouse Fix allows Windows XP users to counter-act the effects of locked mouse acceleration in Windows XP. This registry file is designed to fix only the problem associated with Windows XP. Use on operating systems other than Windows XP is at the sole risk of the user.
And yes, you should be using it.

Okay I just installed the mouse fix.

But when I installed it last time it didn't change my shut-down and login screens. Instead of coming up with the ones designed for Windows XP (the button and image based ones) it comes up with the old school Windows 2000 style screens.

Anyone know how to change that back?

Nope. 100% serious. I took a look at the code before I installed it, all it had was desktop/mouse related registry in there. So maybe something in that triggered something in desktop/theme to change.

I somehow blurred those two into one sentence and imagined it said "Get a good haircut", SERIOUS!

I can aim, but my ability to control recoil is random. Therefore I'm sticking to pubbing with the MP5 and sequential headshots.

so many times ive heard that adam

alot of ppl including myself say "yeh my aim is fine" but often its actually not.

dont hide behind the fact you get some headshots in pub, and actually practice bots/DM with USP/colt/AK, and you will notice a heck of alot more consistentness (k is that a word) when playing, and the ability to pick up 2 or 3 frags where before you would have been stuck to get 1 (e.g. your watching the line with a usp behind DD in dust2, they hard rush mid, with usp prac against bots your aim will remain at headheight, and you will get the first 2 or 3 entrys unless you choke badly, before you probably would have killed the first guy and then your aim would of been all over the place and the 2nd guy would of killed you.), and alot more stability when moving your mouse around.

getting used to one sensitivity and one sens only is really important, dont start changing ur sens around coz ur not getting some headshots, stick with one and stick with it!!!

you'll find (and for anyone else having this problem), that this is actually source. Source spray patterns are fairly random, and you'll controll it one time, then reload and spray again and it will go hay-wire, this is why its important to practice DM/pub, to get used to ALL the different recoils (colt = about 3 or 4 different patterns), and then it just becomes a mental thing, you'll be spraying and you will start to feel it go right and you're brain will click "Oh i know this pattern!", and you will control is easier

Well... controlling the M4 when it's silenced is easy but the AK is hard. I love spamming people with a full auto P90 though.

it might just be me, but i doubt any begginers will even know of this website and check this 'tutorial' so i dont really see the point, seeing as most people that flame these lame forums are people that know how to aim already. but hey, good waste of time huk! keep it up.

Seriously, I don't know whats the deal with whining about mouse acceleration. Personally, I've tried both (yeah it wasn't a 1 day thing, I used it for a month) and personally the second I swapped back to accel on I was in heaven.

Is it a personal preference, or is there some major beneficiary to using the fix? I've head acceleration is random, but I find it to be pretty accurate.

I had a look at it all and had a go at it huk, ill give it a go for the next few weeks and we will see what happens. Although I already play DM quite constantly so im interested to see how much versing bots will effect my aim.

What mouse accel actually does, is it changes the the distance your cursor moves depending on how fast you move your mouse
For example, say i move my mouse 10cm really slow, it may only do a 90 degree turn
Where if i move it the same distance quickly, it may do a 180 degree turn
This is why "pro" gamers think it's inaccurate, because the slightest drop in speed when moving your mouse could stop you from getting that headshot

Mouse accel off on the other hand, no matter how fast you move your mouse, your cursor will move the same distance every time, which infact is probably more accurate
In my opinion, if you're already used to mouse accel, leave it that way.
If you change to accel off, it could take ages to find the right sensitivity and you will end up wasting much time on something that didn't make much of a difference anyway

Yeah thats my beef with it. Way I see it, if I want to get a flick shot down pat I want to move my mouse fast and get there fast. I dont want to swipe 7 times. But I don't know, I'm not a great player, perhaps I should nip this in the butt before it actually becomes a problem =\.

Nice one Huk, I haven't read all of it yet BUT I will

I just want to correct a few things though:

    * Find a sensitivity where u can turn around 180 degrees with 1 or 2 swings. U don't want to turn around with 1 flick because...

    and

    * Turned off your mouse accell either through driver options or cpl Mouse fix, which does it manually. LINK: http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/files/...e46974bb316494

^ Probably should say that most people prefer to have this turned off because the mouse movements feel more natural for high majority of people but there are some people that don't turn the mouse excel off because they have gotten used to it and like it better. (not sure if you want to edit that just thought I would ask)

Again good guide for the newbies out there, and if I find any who ask for help I will know where to send em maybe I should write I guide on what I know :P

For this to work on your own computer when you create a server you need to do two steps

    Step 1

create a file in notepad and save as "listenserver.cfg" <-- include the "" and in the notepad file u only need to add mp_dynamicpricing 0 .

The file needs to be saved in the cfg directory yourpath \steamapps\yoursteamname\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg

    e.g. C:\CSS\steamapps\BillyRay\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg

    Step 2

For ease of use i create a "bot.cfg" file and include as below or above as Huk in autoexec.cfg

    mp_startmoney 16000 // gived 16000 start $$
    bind "-" "mp_restartgame 1" //restart round using "-" key
    mp_limitteams 0
    mp_autoteambalance 0
    bot_join_team t
    bot_quota 5
    bot_difficulty 0
    changelevel bloodassault_mini------------------------------------------------------
The key is that changelevel command will remove the dynamic pricing and allow a startmoney of 16000.
