GotGames 2006 Source Nationals LAN
Firstly on behalf of GotGames and all of its supporters, we would like to say thanks to all of our sponsors: ATi, AMD, Altech, Gigabyte, Samsung and Razer for supporting us and helping us succeed at Game1. And also a big thanks goes to Gamestah.com for their constant support of GotGames.
When GotGames was born just over half a year ago, no one would have believed that it could become the biggest driving point of Counter Strike: Source in Australia and change the competitive scene forever. GotGames kick-started the Australian Counter Strike: Source scene by providing its members with competitions, forums and a promise. That promise was to hold the first ever major Source LAN in Australia, with a $5000 reward for the winning team up for grabs. Many were sceptical, but the promise was kept on the 2nd of December 2006 when GotGames held its first major LAN event in Sydney.

GotGames LAN Day 1
Teams from all around Australia packed up their pc's and headed to Sydney to try and get their hands on $5000 cash and of course, the glory of being officially the #1 team in Aus. GotGames was about to step into the unknown and host an event that could pave the way for other major Source comps in Australia. Understandably though, the event got off to a shaky start, with technical problems that were eventually resolved. Once the matches got going, the event really started to pick up, with some amazing matches taking place.
The group stage saw some very tight matches that really set the standard for the rest of the matches to come. To start, we saw GTeSports take the #1 seeding and win all of their group stage matches to make it through to the next round. We also saw the likes of Encore, f4f and Imminent pick up some hardly fought wins and make it through to the next stage. But Group B was the group everyone was talking about, with two teams that were favourites to win the comp: RpM and YGS. The two teams faced off on de_Inferno and in a thrilling match, we saw YGS come out on top 16-14. But with previous group stage wins under their belt, they both moved into the next round.

At the end of Day One we saw 8 teams get one step closer to the $5000 worth of prize money. They were: GTeSports, Imminent, f4f, Encore, YGS, Catchon, 4tw, RpM.
Got Games LAN Day 2
With the remaining 8 teams refreshed and ready to go, the double elimination stage began. Number 1 seeded GTeSports took down 4tw with relative ease 16-10. Then we saw a thrilling match up between f4f and Imminent in which we saw Imminent edge over the line 16-14 and move on to face the ever-dominant GT. Encore and RpM locked horns in another tight match with RpM taking victory 16-12, knocking Encore down to the losers bracket. YGS and Catchon were up next and we saw Catchon surprise many by toppling the 1.6 giants YGS 16-12. After some close encounters and one major upset, the next round of matches got under way. In the losers bracket a dominant f4f side sent home 4tw, and a menacing Team Encore eliminated YGS. Catchon were sent down to the losers bracket after a 16-10 beating by RpM and played off against f4f who ripped through them, making Catchon the 3rd victim of the day.

GTeSports vs. Imminent
In the Winners bracket the unstoppable GTeSports team took on Imminent again in what was a very tense and exciting match. Imminent got the pistol round, but were then blown away by a huge deagle round from GT, in which "Beast" from GT displayed how deadly he can be with a deagle in hand. Imminent relied on "gummerz" in a number of tight situations where he kept his cool and played exceptionally well to clutch the round. "Havoc" of Imminent amazed everyone with an absolutely insane 5 vs. 1 clutch against the #1 seeds, and then just two rounds later, his team-mate "Huk" picked off all 5 of the t's as they pushed the inside bombsite. GT tried hard to stop the rampaging opposition with their solid defence, but they couldn't hold them back long enough, as Imminent picked up the win 16-11.

GTeSports vs. Encore
A disappointed GT were knocked down to the losers bracket to take on Encore. GT got off to a bad start, losing the first round on the terrorist side, but bounced back in a sensational deagle rush of the top bombsite in the 2nd round, which blitzed the Encore defence. Once they had gained their composure once again, Encore held a fairly solid ct side, winning the first half 10-5. The teams swapped side and battled it out in an intense 2nd half, but GT were just too strong for Encore, and they moved on to face f4f after winning 16-14.

Imminent vs. RpM
This match had everyone on the edge of their seats, after an amazing performance by RpM who were staring defeat right in the face when they were down 15-8. "Twelve-60" and "x1" of RpM dominated the ct half to bring the game back to 15-15 putting the match into overtime. During the nerve-racking overtime, Imminent fired up and took the match 19-17 sending RpM into the loser's bracket to play the winner of GT and f4f. This win pushed Team Imminent straight into the Grand Final position, waiting for their next opponent.

GTeSports vs. f4f
After a disappointing loss to Imminent at the start of the day, f4f tore their way through 4tw and Catchon in the losers bracket and were then about to claim their next victim. GT had just come out of a tight match against Encore, but they were left dumbstruck by the fierce f4f line-up who demolished them 16-1 in what was possibly the most shocking result of the comp.

RpM vs. f4f [Semi Final]
This was the match everyone had been waiting for, these two giants of Counter Strike: Source were about to face off. RpM started off by taking the pistol round, but they were soon put on the back foot as the likes of "Apoc" and "topgun" from f4f stepped up and led the charge for their team. The first half went to the terrorists, f4f, 10-5. Once again RpM got off to a good start by taking the pistol round, and continued to take the first 7 rounds in spectacular fashion. Feeling uneasy about their fate, the f4f boys dug deep, and used their great teamwork and aim to stop RpM from walking all over them. When the scores were locked at 15-12 in favour of f4f, "Flabboy" from RpM rose to the occasion by team-downing the opposition, and pulling off a stunning 1 vs. 4 clutch to keep his team in the game. The match certainly didn't disappoint with f4f narrowly taking out the win 16-14. With RpM knocked out, f4f and Imminent were the only remaining teams.

Imminent vs. f4f [Grand Final]
The time had come for the final two teams to play each other, with both teams coming off some very tight wins; this match was sure to be intense. With confidence heavily on Imminent's side, f4f would have to fight hard to find a weakness in Imminent's solid defence and superb offence. The map was de_Train and Imminent started ct's, taking the first round after the terrorist's strat left "soren" of f4f in a difficult 2v1 situation. A huge deagle round by f4f in the 3rd round made Imminent's normally rigid defence slip just enough for them to take the round. The rounds were all very tight, which forced teams to rely heavily on their teamwork and communication rather than their aim. Imminent took the first half 10-5 and jumped on to the terrorist side, hoping to blitz f4f's defence. A tense first round was won by f4f and they pushed on to take the first 5 rounds in a row. But Imminent pulled their heads in and once they got going, not even f4f's world of Counter Strike knowledge and impeccable aim could stop them. Imminent defeated the veterans of f4f 16-11 and took home the well-deserved $5000.

On the 2nd and 3rd of December 2006, the upper echelon of Counter Strike: Source teams in Australia faced off, in what was a spectacular event. With the car show 'AutoSalon' being run in the same venue, there was plenty to see and do while you weren't playing a match. The Admins of GotGames stepped up to the challenge and hosted the first ever major Source LAN in Australia, and showed that GotGames are capable of showcasing the amazing talent of our Counter Strike: Source players. Once again, thank you to all of the wonderful sponsors of GotGames, thank you to the fans and players who attended the GotGames Game1 event and also a big thanks to all the people behind the scenes at the event, doing their best to put on a good show.
