Default Huks Tutorial: Part1 AIM

Huks Guide to Aim Part 1

I thought id throw a series of threads together to help out some players. So here goes my first one.

In this thread we'll be discussing how to improve your aim, But the first step is to make sure u have:

* Got a good mouse, ie mx510, mx518, habu, g5, or 1.1 etc As well as a decent mouse pad, i havent used any hard pads such as icemat. BUt id recommend, a large clothpad, Steelpad qck, dkt megamat, everglide titan etc.

* Turned off your mouse accell either through driver options or cpl Mouse fix, which does it manually. LINK: http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/files/...e46974bb316494

* Run at a solid fps, anything above 60 or 70 should be fine. having lower fps often changes the way ur mouse reacts to your movements.

* Found a sensitivity where u can turn around 180 degrees with 1 or 2 swings. U don't want to turn around with 1 flick because when u actually do get in a firefight if its too high u wont be able to control recoil. So anything between 0.75 and 2.2, on 800dpi and 6/11 windows sens would be suitable. Then it comes down to personal preference if u go higher or lower.

OK, most importantly. Once uve got things set up to suit you how are you gonna acctually do the aiming part?

Things to know. Or at least think about.

* Aim comes from the wrist and fingertips, moving your xhair around the screen comes from your arm (eg turning around). Difference being your fingers, and wrist are fine muscles u have developed from writing and doing small activities for years, and they are best suited for tiny movements. Your arm muscles have been developed for whacking off, playing tennis and beating the wife. So they can really handle the 180's well.

So i tend to hold my mouse close to the edge of my desk, rather then right up high because that sorta restricts my wrist to move around.

That pretty much covers ground knowledge. Now to basics.

I figured that u wanna learn how far your mouse moves with certain movements, u need to learn 180 and 90 degree turns, as well as smaller movements. Mouse control is important if u wanna smash heads.

Here's a little demo i recorded on dust2 just showing a few ways u can practice controlling your mouse. Also doing some of this stuff in warm up or eco rounds can really tune u up for the next few rounds.

The next thing u need to learn is playing bots. Lots and lots of bots.

Put this line in your autoexec so that u can play bots regularly, without using console commands so often.

mp_limitteams 0
mp_autoteambalance 0
bot_join_team t
bot_quota 5
bot_difficulty 0

That will start the server with 5 bots joining terrorist.

Maps YAY

Alrite, time to choose what maps. First start on Blood_assault

use your usp, try get the feel for it, get headshots n ****. Do 5 rounds in a row. Or if u dont get bored continue. Then buy a glock and use that for 5 rounds, take note of its accuracy, and how fast u can fire it before it gets un-accurate.
After a few rounds with those pistols use your deagle, get your only aiming for putting your xhair on their heads. You may think its random and un-accurate but the more precise you have that dot on the head, the more times you will find yourself taking down 3 or 4 in a row. (they are only bots )

Then go onto rifles, for ak, try practice moving your aim right onto their head\neck area and drag straight down in one swift movement. Shooting 2 or 3 bullets, then strafe. This will familiarize you with shooting between strafes.
For m4, basically 2 or 3 bullet burst, its best if u can control how many bullets u shoot .

Remember rifles have several different methods of shooting for certain situations, The tap tap, which is a slower spray groups bullets better. The 2 bullet strafe fire, is great for range or moving targets. The spray is for anything u think it'll work on :P

ALRIGHTY, now your an allrounder! Do this once or twice a day for a while. Maybe 5 rounds each gun. Have a look at this demo i just recorded to see what u should be aiming for. Its a bit rough because i had so many programs open while playing.

http://rapidshare.com/files/8893773/Desktop.rar.html

To play a demo open console and type demoui then select the demo name from the list, make sure you have that map in your maps folder or else it wont work.

Well, ull want to practice your aim on other maps for different situations right? Well ive made a few custom maps, but they are pretty much kept secret for now.

Ones i can hand out though are. These. Ill also include a small demo to each of the maps so u can see how to practice on them.

Bloodassault_mini
All_around_aim
InfernoB_beta

http://rapidshare.com/files/8966152/...demos.rar.html

To actually benefit from these maps, ull need to know what to do, u cant just sit behind a box with an awp waiting for them to come around and think ull get good right?

BA mini: Great map, u can practice all guns, and using nades. Either strafe out, and try take as many as u can, or keep peeking in and out shooting 1 each time. Even wait at an angle for the first one to walk into your aimer then strafe out spraying, try to take down 2 or 3 after that.

All around Aim: This is a bit of a dud map, but u can sit in your enclosure as CT, and wait for the T's to get near u and flick your aim onto them when they get into 1 or 3 entrances.

INferno B BETA: Its great for anything, try playing behind a box waiting for them then taking them down from left and right.

Practice Routine

Now basically all thats left is developing a practise routine. Usualy ill get bored some nights and play these maps with mp3's going for a few hours, or maybe just 5 minutes when i come online to warm up.

What ull need to do is develop a time limit, which makes the difference between practicing something, and just warming up on a map.

Lets say for starters, u might want to play bots every day u come online. Find some good music and just shoot away, u might find it frustrating in some cases just dying or missing a few shots consecutivley but in the end it all works out fine.

Things you can do on top of playing bots, is play lots of GA DM #3 War maps
which will basically sharpen you up and increase your skill level on a whole with certain weapons. Ull basicaly want to be killing everything u see, and pretending that situation was in a war and where ud look next etc.

now thats it for this series i hope some of you learn something from it because i spent ages putting this together.
